I am mesmerized! A minute ago I was just in my neo-classic inspired abode… as I stepped out; I was already in the busy streets of Paris! and the Eiffel Tower is standing there a few meters away from me in its utmost elegance.
Across the street a splendid waterworks that has captured my attention. Wide-eyed faces are on the street, which simply cannot resist the synchronized beauty it creates.
Then a few more steps, I was brought to Ancient Rome, there I began to recall the five orders of architecture. What is it again? Let me try… Doric, Ionic, Corinthian which are from Greek orders and Composite and Tuscan from Rome ( Wow! my memory still works somehow, after all, every architect must know this by heart). These are the gigantic columns that are important elements of the classical world. There are also fine human sculptures in the building’s façade which emanates the mythological interpretations during that era. I took a picture one after another brought about the relentless energy of the surrounding… until I realized it’s almost 4 a.m.!!!
Morning time! I got up with my walking shoes and headed on the other side of the street. Flamingo girls are around, (guys, just beware on taking photographs they are photo for tips).
I saw Whoopie Goldberg on the street! And other prominent wax figures are inside the museum as well, waiting to be photographed by the tourists…
The next stop is Venice…what a romantic spot to be on the gondola while being serenaded on the ride. Then on the southern end of the strip, there is a pyramid…then New York is also nearby with the statue of liberty towering it, with the famous Empire State Building and Chrysler Building. Not only that, but there is also a castle which has an Arthurian theme with a name reminiscent of the famous sword of King Arthur. There are lots of things to be seen! It is amazing they are all in one place, no need to travel too far ….they are all in Vegas baby!
Las Vegas is “the City that never sleeps”. A stranger, just told me while walking “ Las Vegas has an ADD –Attention Deficit Disorder.” Every single detail is there to capture your attention and to surpass the beauty of its neighbor….and what is the result of all these things? Is it chaos? Nah….it is a harmonized difference, that everything fell into place…making it aesthetically pleasing.
The Las Vegas strip is approximately 6.8 km. Wow! I did not recognize that I have walked that long. It is then a perfect example of a walkable community. The strip is made to be pedestrian-friendly, with well-defined signs, footpaths, and footbridges.
Most of the hotels are interconnected with each other which allows the pedestrian to have diversified routes to reach their destination and to continuously walk without reaching any dead ends.
Since it is a boulevard, the street is not narrow, therefore vehicles are part of it (that’s the downside). But wait, there are buses, trains and bus stops which are part of the elements of a new urbanist community because it allows people to interact rather than having a private vehicle.
There are no parking slots along the boulevard, most of the parking area located at the rear portion of the hotels, therefore it reduces vehicular traffic congestion.
Convenient stores like Walmart, restaurants, thrift shops are also a few minutes' walks so everything you need is just a few walks away from you.
Music! It is everywhere, you can imagine you are doing your music video while walking.
The variety of views is another factor, once you are within the strip you will not recognize that you have been walking too far because your attention is focused on the different structures that rest on the boulevard (see it has an ADD). These are the fountains of Bellagio; the New York New York which evokes the architecture of New York’s skyline; the statue of MGM lion; the eruption of the volcano at Mirage; The Rialto Bridge at the Venetian; the Great Sphinx of Giza at Luxor…..and so on…
It is not only the structures! the strip is full of entertainment. Mickey mouse, Micheal Jackson, Captain Jack Sparrow (who kept on accusing me on taking a picture of him without giving tips) some magicians, artist…they are all part of the walkers and pedestrian. So tell me how can you sleep in this kind of entertainment.
Las Vegas, is a showcase of man’s creativity in different times, events and places. The primary tourist spot is created by its architecture. It is a world of differences but united to complement each other.
As I continued to walk, I saw a shirt saying…What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas… (sounds a little bit intriguing) but what could I say? Every part of it is worth to treasure and an inspiration especially for a builder like me so I would say, “What happens in Vegas stays in my Camera “.
